Indian Standard Time (IST) is UTC+5:30 and is used across India all year, with no daylight saving. Use the live clock below to check the current time in India, convert IST to EST, PST or UTC, or jump straight to train time tables and PNR status help for Indian Railways.
Current Time in India
India follows a single time zone, Indian Standard Time, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh. IST is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), and the clock does not change in summer or winter. That makes it easy to plan: the time in India is the same in every state, every day of the year.
If you work with clients, teams or family in another country, the main thing to remember is that the gap between India and other countries can change twice a year when those countries move their clocks. India does not, so the difference to the US, UK and Europe shifts with their daylight saving dates.
Convert IST to Other Time Zones
Our converters show the matching time instantly and apply daylight saving automatically. Pick the one you need:
IST to EST (Eastern Time)
IST is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST) and 9 hours 30 minutes ahead of Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Use the IST to EST converter for meetings with New York, Toronto and other cities on Eastern Time.

IST to UTC and GMT
IST is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of UTC. The UK is on GMT in winter (the same 5 hours 30 minutes gap) and on British Summer Time in summer (a gap of 4 hours 30 minutes).

PNR Status Help
Your PNR (Passenger Name Record) is the 10-digit number printed on your railway ticket. It tells you the current status of your booking. You can check your live status on the official IRCTC and NTES websites, and our PNR status guide explains what each code means.
What CNF, RAC and WL Mean
- CNF (Confirmed): your berth or seat is confirmed.
- RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation): you are allowed to travel and will get a seat, and a full berth if a cancellation happens.
- WL (Waiting List): you do not have a confirmed seat yet. Waiting list tickets come in several types, such as GNWL, RLWL and PQWL, and your chance of confirmation depends on the type and the position number.
